Money Trauma

Healing Lineages of Struggle

What is Money Trauma?

Money trauma is the emotional and psychological wounds we carry surrounding money, often rooted in ancestral experiences, family inheritance and dynamics, past experiences, and societal influences and oppression.

For those of us who are descendants of enslavement, colonization, and genocide, we embody a unique manifestation of this trauma. Our ancestors’ hardships, survival strategies and coping skills have had lasting impacts on our relationship to money, to systems, and to empire.

My Money Trauma

My lineage survived many of these harsh conditions. My family also navigated dictatorship, US backed war, forced migration and being undocumented in the US.  As the eldest daughter, my money trauma has been potent throughout my life.

This is how it often still manifests for me:

  • I save too much

  • I prepare for the worst

  • I feel a sense of urgency

  • I always feel behind

  • I worry that I will lose it all and that my family’s sacrifices will be in vain

  • Navigating institutions activates my childhood wounding and I feel very small and helpless

Our Colonial Inheritance

For first-generation individuals, those moving from scarcity to abundance, navigating finances can be particularly challenging:

  • our families and our communities may still be struggling due to systemic oppression

  • we experience shame and the guilt for succeeding and leaving people behind

  • our nervous system has to be re-wired to move in trust

  • we have few models on how to live in abundance and as liberated beings

Many of us are stuck in a cycle of poverty, scarcity, lack, and fear.

  • holding limited beliefs as truth

  • navigating chronic not enoughness and undeservedness

  • saying no to ourselves and yes to others

  • self sabotaging

  • rejecting blessings, money and opportunities

Your Liberation:

Healing our inheritance of struggle is not just possible, but it is our birthright.

We come from abundant ancestors, collectives, lands, medicines, and tradition.

Everything we need to reclaim is hidden there for safe keeping, right below the surface.

We have everything that we need to thrive.

This course is a holistic approach to healing money trauma. Together we will explore the core mental, emotional and spiritual wounds that we carry. We will bear witness and acknowledge the impact that these have had on our lives, experiences, and world-views. We will unravel the patterns that keep us stuck in survival and imagine what thriving will look like. We will create new abundant futures for ourselves and our descendants.

Putting names and labels to my relationship with money was super helpful to see my own limiting patterns…I feel one step ahead where I am more conciente about my transgenerational, political and historical relationship with money.

I left with a HUGE weight off of my shoulders, truly. I have felt so lighter since. This course put a lot into perspective. It really helped create pathways to different thinking because it was so relatable.

This training was absolutely amazing, and I will most definitely treasure all the contemplations and learnings… It has helped me consider what thriving and abundance might look like for me, as well as encouraged me to begin to pay closer attention to the shifts as I “move in trust” vs. “walk in fear.”
